Projects
Orphan Sponsors – We are still in need of 10 people to donate $25 per month to support a Haitian orphan. This will provide food and schooling. All proceeds go directly to the orphanage and there is no stateside administrative costs.
Plastic Recycling – While in Gonaives, we noticed a large amount of trash in the streets, including plastic bottles that could be recycled into useful products. We are investigating ways of recycling these materials and could use some plastic industry expertise on how to get a program started. Our hope is to pay people for gathering recyclable materials, pay them to manufacture viable products and sell the products to the public. Ultimately, the goal is to learn how to create quality products that could be exported and bring new money into Haiti.
What we need for the project:
- Industry expertise – someone who could guide the project and make recommendations on equipment to purchase and training needs.
- Molds – plastics molds of various types to produce cups, bowls, buckets and other useful items.
- Extruder – to melt the plastic and prepare for injection into the mold.
- Grinder – to grind the various plastics
- Cleaning System – to clean the plastic before processing
- Power – supply of consistent power for running the equipment
Plastic Recycling 2 – We are looking to find a heat press and molds. This would be a much smaller scale and would serve as a pilot project to measure the commercial viability of the larger project. It would still create a business but much more a cottage industry.
Video Capabilities – The television station at Pastor Benoit’s church is in need of some technological updating.
What we need for the project:
- Computer for video transmission
- Computer for video editing
Printing – Another minister in Haiti has a degree in graphic arts but does not have the equipment to start a printing business. Again there are no printing services in Gonaives and they must go to Port-au-Prince to have things printed.
What we need for the project:
- Inkjet Printer
- Heat Press
- Sublimation inks and paper
- Transfer paper
- Blanks – blank products to put designs on
Soil Analysis – In a poor region near Gonaives, there is a soil that is used for soap by the local population. We would like to analyze the soil to determine its commercial viability.
CD Duplication – Now that there is a recording studio in Gonaives, CD duplication would complete the process for musicians to get their music to their audience. We are currently looking into CD duplicators and printers for the CD covers.
Microloans – A small loan of $25-100 can change the life of a Haitian. It is enough to start a small business and lead to self-sufficiency. Along with the loan, we would like to offer financial counseling and business tools.
Trade school tools – Pastor Benoit is planning on adding a second floor to his school to begin a trade school. The goal is to train young men in mechanics, carpentry, masonry, electrical and plumbing. We would like to help them by providing some of the tools for the school.
Printers for computer school – The computer school needs 5-7 laser printers.
Ceramic tiles – Similar to the plastic recycling project, glass is a waste issue. If the glass can be put in a concrete matrix, cut and polished, it may make a viable tile similar to a ceramic tile. This would serve two purposes: a business opportunity and environmental cleanup.
Sewing machine – We have an industrial sewing machine that can be used to start a textile business. What we need now is transportation to get it to Haiti.
